I have been working with a client for the last year and a half or so in helping her to recover her menstrual cycles after years of birth control and then a hormonal IUD. She had the IUD removed and after removal her cycle wouldn't return so we started working with a formula to help regulate her hormones and bring on menstruation. She is in her early 20s, constitutionally thin, used to over exercise, and is vegetarian. She has been conscious of not over exercising for the last 2 years to not have that affect her cycle, she doesn't have PCOS or any other dx reproductive dis-harmony other than secondary amenorrhea. We got her cycle to begin again after about 6 months, and it had been coming regularly every 30-45 days since November of 2023, and then it just recently stopped again in September and has not had a menstrual cycle since. She has had a lot of life stress (getting married, moving to a different state, etc), and does feel that that is affecting her. She is also sort of type A and a worrier. Now that she's married she is wanting to try to conceive soon and is now getting her into cycles of worry of infertility because of her unregulated menses. She is currently on a formula of vitex, dang gui, dan shen, white peony, red raspberry, licorice, and prickly ash. She is also drinking infusion herbs of red clover and oatstraw. I am going to adjust her formula to try to better encourage menses and support her worrying mind, recommend seed cycling, getting healthy fats in her diet, some movement meditation because still meditations and breath work are hard for her, and maybe offer a flower essence. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for ways to adjust this formula, or anything else, to better support regulating her cycles and fertility. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

David said: I would add Shatavari, possibly Morinda/Ba Ji Tian, Rou Cong Rong and Suo Yang. I don’t think Prickly Ash is really indicated, and red raspberry and red clover have no real benefit here either. Also full spectrum Vitamin E. How thin is she? What is her weight and height, if she is underweight amenorrhea is a common result.

Thank you. Her formula changed quite a bit over time and the prickly ash and red raspberry ended up in her formula for other reasons. I ended up formulating for her before I heard back from your response and put shatavari in her formula and pulling those other two out. She is not overly thin. Healthy body weight.
