Cataracts and Diabetes

David, Do you have any thoughts on the correlation of cataracts and diabetes? My mother recently got diagnosed with a rather large cataract in one eye and I am sure her blood sugar is high based on her age/eating habits/weight. I am aware of the correlation with eye issues in regards to type 1 diabetes, but I am curious if eye floaters and cataracts could actually just be a manifestation of blood sugar dysregulation such as diabetes 2. I am encouraging a physical/check up for blood work.

Diabetes causes a lot of eye problems especially diabetic retinopathy and AMD, because high blood usage damages the small capillaries in the eye and thus reduces circulation and increases inflammation. This process also increases the risk of cataracts, although it is not always the direct cause.
