But yesI do recommend rotating brands and strains weekly, or every few weeks, or at the very least every few months. There is no magic number for it - mainly b/c our science on this is so preliminary. There may be an ideal - it probably varies person to person - but we don't know it yet. I should say not everyone agrees with me on this - I base this on research that shows that microbiome biodiversity is more significant for health outcomes than the total bacterial count. I usually give clients 3, 4 or 5 different brands to rotate through. It can even be as they finish one bottle, to replace with another.
Two important points:
1) if someone reports a clear therapeutic effect that they lose when they go off a particular brand, I tell them to stay on it. That is the exception in my clinical experience.
2) when on antibiotics I recommend using more than one probiotic at once or maybe day by day rotations.
