Heya, always love that first opportunity to treat something new. An elderly man with cellulitis for the past month on his lower leg. At least it looks like cellulitis to me… silver cream seemed to work, got better, now has gotten worse. Here’s what I’m having him do, just curious your thoughts Echinacea angustifolia 40% Scrophularia nododa 30% Centella 25% Baptisia 5% 3 mls TID for a few days to assess gastric tolerance of baptisia. If ok then 5 mls TID Plus I’m having him do a wash of echinacea angustifolia root and mahonia decoction TID and a fomentetion overnight. Thoughts? Thanks again David for asking all my questions! That is what the class is for, I like your formula, be careful with the Baptisia, if he gets nauseous or GI upset, try Isatis instead. IN TCM Chines Coptis is also used internally for this sort of thing .What is his lower leg circulation like ? can you feel pulses in his ankles ? You say it looks like cellulitis, is it red and feels hot to the touch ? Edematous ? Has he had any trauma injury to the area (from your post I assume it is only one leg). Blood sugar ? any swelling or heat in the feet or toes ?

So unfortunately it’s for a friends dad who isn’t local so I can’t see it or asses it physically. It doesn’t look edematous, he’s a pretty skinny Vata looking guy. Definitely red and inflamed. I have pictures but I can’t seem to put photos here. Wish I could send you some. It was a bit wheepy looking but now appears to be drying out. Nothing looks swollen in the lower extremities and from what I’ve been told by his daughter (who’s a nurse) he doesn’t have Bs issues. I guess it emerged after he got scratched by his son’s dog on his leg. He’s up to mls of the formula with no GI issues, which is good. I’m having them send me updates every day or so. Perhaps I’ll keep you posted in here

Ok so an update on this one, he went to the doctor the other day and both the primary and a skin specialist told him it was simply dermatitis and gave him cortisone cream and surprisingly told him to put calendula comfrey cream on it (!) This is really surprising to me and for some reason still seems off. After seeing the pictures I sent, do you have ideas as to what this might be? His daughter did say that apparently one of his doctors said he had some circulatory issues in his legs which is what I was starting to wonder after the treatment wasnt working as well as I’d expected. Can skin issues like this emerge simply from poor peripheral circulation? I’d never heard that before…. 🤷‍♂️

I do not believe it is simple dermatitis, I have seen a bit of dermatitis and it never looked like the pics you sent of that man’s leg. But to answer your other question, yes, impaired circulation to the lower extremities can cause skin problems, decubitus ulcers, inflammation, redness, edema, etc.
