As mentioned in class last night, we treat people not diseases, so a 30 year old who is overweight, and has anxiety and sleep issues needs to be evaluated to determine what makes sense for him. First would be dietary changes, exercise, stress reduction techniques, etc. Then you look at the person, energetics, constitution, medications, medical history and see what herbs make sense for them. For instance with sleep issues someone can have deficiency insomnia or excess insomnia, they are treated entirely differently. Being overweight increases the risk of sleep apnea and herbs do not treat this. There are many herbs for anxiety such as Skullcap, Blue Vervain, Bacopa, Gotu Kola, Motherwort, Lavender, Chinese Polygala, etc. They are usually combined with nervines such as fresh milky oat, Linden Flower, Chamomile, etc, but again which ones are appropriate for this person I cannot say without knowing more. The same is true for Parkinsons. I am not trying to be confusing or not answer your question, but treating diseases with herbs simply is often not very effective. Treating people is and this is what you will learn over the next 2 years.
