David, What would your thought process be if you had a 14-year-old girl who was presenting with a fluid filled cyst in her jawbone? Specifically, her mandible. From a Western perspective, the cyst needs drained (this will be done by an oral surgeon), and the space currently occupied by the cyst filled in with bone. Can you share some thoughts from a TCM perspective as to what an underlying pattern may be and some herbs your mind would think of to help her body heal? Also, any questions you might have for her regarding her overall health to aid in your diagnosis? Thank you David:) Jami

I actually don’t think the TCM perspective is useful as there is little that TCM herbs or western herbs are likely to do. Most cysts (ovarian cysts are an exception) are poorly vascularized and simply rarely respond well to anything you take orally.
