I am wondering what your recommendations would be for helping to heal a ski knee injury. 1.5 years post twisting a knee skiing and having chronic dull aching in the joint. Initial care of the injury was rest ice compression and elevation, along with comfrey and Saint Johns wort oil and compresses. No major tear was determined. Seemed to heal fine but a year post injury began experiencing dull aching in the joint, especially when twisted outwardly. Client is active with yoga and regular daily low impact (to the knees) exercise and walking, in addition to a healthy diet and weight. Looking to support further regeneration of the tissues and prevent further arthritic progression.

First I would mention that ice is no longer recommended for this type of injury, while it reduces inflammation, it slows healing and the removal of wastes in damaged tissue. This type of injury responds best to immediate treatment, it is unclear how well it will respond 1.5 yers after the trauma. I would use H & A’s compound arnica oil 2x per day with heat, Physical therapy, internally 2 parts Teasel root, 2 parts Achyranthes/Huai Nui Xi, 1/2 part Horse Chestnut, 2 parts Goji Berry. Without more details I cannot be more specific than that.

thank you so much. the injury had seemed to recover fully according to the client, but recently without any additional trauma, weakness and pain has come back in the joint over the last few months. do you have any reputable sources you recommend for the achyrathes/huai nui xi?I couldn't find it on the h&a site.

I do not know of a good source for a tincture, but you can get the bulk herb from Mayway, Nuherb (larger quantities only) or Asia Naturals.
