When using herbs for migraines, are there any guidelines for when/how often to use them? After assessing the type of migraine (excess/heat or deficient/cold) and choosing the right herbs, should they be used daily/preventative or best used only when a migraine is coming on? or can this depend on how often the client gets migraines and how sever they are? Also, I'm curious if it would differ depending on the herb used. I would appreciate any guidance on using herbs for migraines. Thanks!

Using herbs to treat migraines requires continual use, i.e you are trying to prevent migraines or reduce frequency, intensity or duration. Taking them once you have a migraine is not very effective. The only exception would be someone who only gets a migraine twice per year, and then treating them daily is not necessary and you would try to determine any triggers (weather, humidity, foods, stress, etc) avoid them if possible and treat at the earliest sign of an impending migraine.
