Q for Wendy - contraindications of HRT

Hi Wendy, I saw your response to the question about long term alternatives to HRT and in it you said that HRT looks to be beneficial for limited time for most peri/post-menopausal folks, *except* those with absolute contraindications. So I was just wondering - – what are "absolute contraindications" to HRT? Would that be history of estrogen dependent cancer? Anything else? Also as a follow up to that- do you pretty much offer HRT to everyone in those transitional years in your practice? Or just those with symptoms? Thanks! Kay'a

Well, I now always have the conversation about using them prophylactically and not just for symptoms, since the science is there. I have no big feelings about it either way, but it's good medicine to mention the science.
