I have a client taking 20 mg Fluoxetine and 20mg buspirone in the morning for anxiety and depression. Do I need to be concerned about any additive sedative effects that taking herbs at night for sleep (larger amounts of passionflower, hops or scullcap for example) that might occur with these two medications? And generally, are there specific herbs for sleep at bedtime to be more cautious with when someone is taking buspirone?
I am not concerned about the Fluoxetine, but Buspirone is a sedative/anxioytic and a additive effect is possible with Hops, Zizyphus seed or other strong sedative herbs, I think less likely with Passionflower or Skullcap.
