Hi David, I was looking over my notes on Dang Gui and I am a bit confused with some information in the contraindications. Dang Gui is used for uterine fibroids . In the contraindications you stated that it should not be used with women with heavy menstrual bleeding( menorrhagia). I am confused because many women with uterine fibroids experience flooding and if it is recommended for uterine fibroids, doesn't this contradict its uses for fibroids? Is it dependent on the type of fibroid ( intramural, submucosal, or subserosal etc)? If you could please shed some light on this I would appreciate it! I am learning so much from you :) Thank you so much Sandy Turcotte

David said: It tends to make menorrhagia worse, so it is CI for heavy menstrual bleeding. Not all menorrhagia is due to uterine fibroids as you know. If it is due to fibroids then you need to be careful with Dang Gui and combine it with herbs that help prevent excessive bleeding. Intramural fibroids are the least likely type to respond to herbal treatment. the submucosal, subserosal respond better and the pedunculated fibroids for some reason seem to respond the best to herbal treatment.
