Harvesting Knotweed

Can you give any advice about harvesting Hu Zhang? I’m curious about best time of year for maximum potency. Also how old should the roots be for harvest? The woody ones are challenging to process but seem like they may have more medicinal value than the younger ones. Thanks

David said: I usually harvest it in the autumn as the plant dies back or very early spring before the new growth. I try to harvest plants that are 2-3 years old (you cannot always tell how old it is), before it gets too woody, which is less efficacious.
