Hello! My apologies is you’ve already addressed this in class, but in regard to the case studies and David’s recommendations for Tinctures, are you making them the percolation method or maceration for a number of weeks? How many weeks? What proof alcohol are you using? Are you diluting and if so, what are the percentages? I understand with the TCM herbs, certain ones are needing to be cooked or decocted for the teas. I’m just wondering about the tinctures. Another question; is there an easy way to purchase premade tinctures from Herbalist & Alchemist to keep on hand? Thank you!

David said: I use maceration for 4-6 weeks (minimum 2 weeks), percolation only takes a few days, but is a bit more complex and you cannot percolate fresh plant tinctures. Are you diluting and if so, what are the percentages? It depends on the specific herb you are tincturing, it ranges from 27.5 - 80%. Some herbs need to be decocted before adding the ETOH. Is there an easy way to purchase premade tinctures from Herbalist & Alchemist to keep on hand? Yes open an account with them and order what ever you need.

The second part to my question ia, what if we have a client who can't wait 4-6 weeks or 2 weeks minimum for the tincture to be ready? I understand we can start with teas or capsules/powders until it's ready....I'm also thinking we could pre-make some of these tincture blends and keep them on the shelf. Lastly, I do have an account with H & A. Can I blend different individual tinctures together to form a blend? If so, do you recommend diluting, or another way of blending them? I know these are basic questions, but my former teachers all had different advice with this subject. Thank you!

Can I blend different individual tinctures together to form a blend? Of course you can. If you have a practice, you have a dispensary or send your patients to one, to make up custom formulas. If so, do you recommend diluting, or another way of blending them? No, you do not dilute them, you combine them in the appropriate ratios (see my formulas each week in class) to make a custom formula.
