Hi David, I am wondering if it is possible for someone taking 25mg metoprolol QD (at bedtime) to also take a prebiotic fiber supplement containing 220mg Triphala? I understand Triphala can lower BP and heart rate, as well as interfere with CYP450. I am seeking guidance as to whether or not this fiber supplement could be taken safely by this individual. If it is an option, what would be the best time of day to take the supplement? Appreciate your input, Valerie

David said: Triphala does not significantly lower blood pressure or heart rate, in one animal study it did have an effect on CYP1A and CYP3A, but not CYP2D6 which is the pathway that metoprolol is metabolized through. To allay any concerns take the Triphala at breakfast and lunch, and not at dinner.
