Hi David. I'm in Florida and I just learned about a local herb that grows abundantly here called Bidens pilosa. A local herbalist said that is is useful for diarrhea and other gut issues. She didn't have much other information on it. The few herb books that I have with me don't mention it. I'm curious what you know about it and what the historical uses of the plant are. Thanks for your time.

Bidens pilosa is a Chinese medicinal plant and the most researched species of Bidens. In TCM is is called Gui When Cao and is used to expel external pernicious influences (wind and damp), clear heat and toxins and relieve stagnation. It is used to treat influenza, sore throat, dysentery, diarrhea, and inflammatory arthritis.
