In Ellingwoods' Materia Medica he writes about the effect of black haw on the uterus as a relaxant and useful for preventing habitual miscarriage and preterm labor. At the same time in small amounts it is recommended to use before birthing to help a smooth process and prevent post partum hemorrhage (which actually would be more characteristic of an herb that promotes uterine contractions). Do you have experience with the use of the herb around child birth? What would small amounts mean and what might you combine it with for labor? Thank you

I have used it help prevent premature labor, miscarriages and to stop Braxton-hicks contractions. I do not work with women during birthing ,so I have not used it during actual labor. I think you would need to talk to a midwife about that.
