Hello, I went swimming with my buddy 26M in cold springs (72F) around 4 years ago. When we all jumped in the water he immediately had an incredibly painful calf spasm and couldn't swim for the rest of the trip. They have never gone away - his right calf has literally spasmed daily since the cold water plunge. It was painful at first but after a week the pain went away, now they are generally painless. Because it started with cold water I tried to moxa his calf - he said it felt a litttttle better but I could still see the spasms and they never stopped. I gave him Shao Yao Gan Cao Tang and he said he never noticed any improvement. I recommended B Vitamins, Cal, Mag, and K and they have not really improved the spasm (although I don't know how diligent he was with supplements). He asked his Dr who told him not to worry about it. It's been a couple of weeks since I've seen him but if I'm remembering the location correctly its around mid calf in the SP/LV meridian area. Any other ideas/herbs/supplements to try? He has basically resigned himself to having a twitchy calf forever but I feel like there is a solution out there. Thanks!

I would see if he actually took magnesium , what form, how much and for how long. I would recommend Magnesium bisglycinate 250 mg BID for 3 months, see if that helps.
