For David: In a Q&A session you told us that we could tincture the cones of Echinacea as well as the roots, to increase the potency. At what stage do you harvest the cones? Ours are about the size of the end digit of my thumb, but the petals have not developed or opened. Do I wait til the cones are brown and full sized or harvest them green? You said to mix the tinctures 50/50. We haven’t gotten to echinacea in our material medica, but could you give us a quick preview of the processing, since harvest is almost upon us?

I harvest the cones when it is in flower, the root in the autumn, each is tinctured separately and then combined after they are done. I make them as 1:2 tinctures, 60% ETOH
