The cause of Dupuytren’s contracture is unknown. It is most common in men over 50 of northern European descent and both Diabetes and smoking are risk factors. It can run in families and once it is advanced treatment is difficult. Orthodox medicine uses enzyme injections, needling and surgery. The first 2 are less invasive. Other options may include acupuncture/moxibustion, physical therapy/massage, oral magnesium may help especially in the early stages, I hav heard of topical magnesium being of some help as well and Hypericum oil.
