Hello! Today on some of the groups I follow regarding gardening with native plants in Pennsylvania, I have seen that the state is in the process of banning the sale of Japanese barberry since it is such an aggressive invasive in this area. Is there a way to grow it and keep reigns on it better? I’m just thinking of it’s value as a source of berberine. Thank you.

It is a common weedy shrub, I would harvest it from the wild, rather than growing it. Harvesting them helps stop the spread of an invasive plant.
