I asked in class and did a search regarding gallstone size. I came up with gallstones can be as big as 5cm and that small ones measure 0.5mm. There is no "normal" size for gallstones. I received a request to help a woman with gallstones, but told her she must have an ultrasound first. The client then went for an ultrasound that states the gallstones present are 0.9mm. I have come up with a protocol for her, but do not want to cause harm. I assume from what you said in class that 0.9mm is small enough to use herbs, but we all know what "assume" means. You also advised to look it up. At present I am not comfortable with what I found on my search. Any reference on a safe gallstone size would be greatl appreciated. Katia

This is tricky, so yes the gallstones are theoretically small enough to pass, but sometimes the shape or number can create issues. Everyones cystic duct is a different size. I have used my gallstone protocol several times over the years (although not in at least 10 years) and it has worked about half the time. Usually passing the gallstones is accompanied by diarrhea. I have not had a gallstone get stuck (which would cause excruciating pain and a trip to the hospital), but there is no guarantee with this. So if you are not comfortable (and I must say I have never been entirely comfortable with this procedure) I would not do it.
