In preparation for this week's materia medica, I found a TCM reference for using the pair Ai ye with Asini Corri Colla (which I found out was gelatin) for several pregnancy-related issues such as bleeding during pregnancy and postpartum, and cold abdominal pain during pregnancy - disturbing the fetus. All of which I have seen in my midwifery practice. The prescription is written "separately warmed to melt"- apparently because if you decoct together it becomes a mess and reduces the absorption of the "ingredients". My question is if an appropriate cold lower burner (hope I am getting that right) presents, how much mugwort to how much gelatin and at what dose would be appropriate?
