Threatened miscarriage - TCM pair

In the Synergy lecture, there is a Common TCM Pair Bai Zhu and Huang Qin. The function of this pair is listed as "Stops uterine bleeding, threatened miscarriage". I found this very interesting. As a midwife, I have heard of neither Atractylodes nor Scutellaria baicallensis as doing anything for miscarriage nor the synergy of the pair. Can you elaborate as to the type of miscarriage that TCM might be describing?

It is used to treat restless fetus or threatened miscarriage due to heat or spleen qi deficiency .
