I know you've discussed Lyme some in class, and have mentioned that you have personally seen many clients with Lyme in your practice. I apologize if this is repetitive, but I don't know if we've talked about immediste protocol after finding a latched tick? I am wondering what to do for my son--hr had a slightly engorged dog tick on him. Based on that fact I'm not concerned about Lyme but still concerned about other possible infections. Have you ever worked on cases of tick bites/Lyme in children? Thank you for providing this forum!

Beyond carefully removing the tick (do not squeeze the tick body when removing it which can increase risk of infection) and applying some antiseptic to the bite, I do not do anything after a tick bite. Herbs are unlikely to reduce the incidence of Lyme, Rocky Mt Spotted fever, Bartonella, Babesiosis or other tick borne disease. So depending on what type of tick is on the person I have them watch for any possible symptoms. If none occur after 4- 6 weeks, they are most likely OK. For deer ticks some doctors prescribe prophylactic doxycycline (3 days), but the research suggests that it is not all that effective in preventing Lyme disease.
