Kerry, I just took the quiz and I have been looking over the quiz since it was available to us. My initial answer was the first answer to number one but as I looked it up I thought it might be the second answer because, if our overall constitution is good and balanced and in harmony(as I read in our materials and books) we can often fight off External Pernicious Factors. Any thoughts about this as being true? Lisa

Hi Lisa Yes you are right that if we are healthy we can fight off External Pernicious Factors. The question was "What best describes what they are .... not how we respond to it Always good to be thinking through things Kerry

Hi Kerry, Regarding qn 2. It's obvious palpitations is a symptom of heart pattern but I thought Andrew had said we dont start treatments for heart patterns b/c it being "The emperor". So I chose lung pattern because sometimes you can also have palpitations as a symptom. Please explain. Soniya

Hi Soniya The question was what "pattern" would you be considering herbs for with palpitations? The all heart patterns listed in your TCM material have palpitations as a possible symptoms. Under lungs patterns palpitations are not listed as part of that symptom picture. I think what you are referring to is with lung damp-phlegm when there is a weight on the heart , and then the treatment would then be focused on the lungs. I do agree that this can feel like palpitations to some people, but in TCM patterns it is not listed a a symptom for lungs. I am not sure what Andrew was referring to about not treating heart patterns if you can tell me where that is in the classes i would be glad to review for you. We do treatments for all heart patterns, blood def, yin def, stagnation etc so i am not sure what he was referring to. I agree is was a obvious symptom, you will see many of your questions at this time are. The questions are focused on review, simple easy questions. hope this helps Kerry

Yes, i guess i thought it was too obvious lol. I might have misheard him, it sounded like the heart is protected so you dont always treat that 1st , but of course if palpitations is there, you would treat. Thanks.

Re: Quiz Number 5, due March 24, 2021 Dear Kerry, I'm confused by Question Number Two on Quiz Number 5, due March 24, 2021. I understand that this question is about the pulse quality involving depth and can be very subjective. When you ask about a strong superficial pulse do you mean "floating" and felt with slight pressure or do you mean it is a strong superficial pulse felt with deep pressure? I'm sure the finger positions on the radial pulse also matter but may be irrelevant to your basic question. Any insights are welcome. Thank you. Sincerely, Rhonda

Hi Rhonda In your class the discussion on superficial pulses was referring to things on the surface so if you were putting pressure on it this would no longer be a superficial pulse. I find the term floating pulse and superficial pulse are often inter changable hope that helps Kerry
