Hi Herbal Friends, I've written about my 13 yo female cat before and now we have a more serious issue. She has a tumor on her chest which is being biopsied Monday 8/13/23. Has anyone ever used Oldenlandia (Bai Hua She She Cao) for cats? I just purchased the extract granules from Kamwostore.com where I get my TCM herbs. I was thinking to dissolve the granules in warm water and somehow getting it into her mouth (not too pleasant for either of us, but mostly her). AND thinking to use that same warm water with Oldenlandia and soak a cloth to apply it as a linament directly on the chest tumor. Any thoughts? Hoping for the best! Nina

Hi Nina, I think that is worth a try! I have only used Xiao Chai Hu Tang (a go to cancer formula as per my TCVM mentor) and Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang for treating cancer in cats (with variable success)...Hopefully the biopsy will guide your treatment. You could consider a mushroom supplement as well - I have used Pet Wellbeing's Mushroom tincture and Real Mushrooms Turkey Tail or 5 Defenders - open the capsules and mix powder with food. We also use a lot of ozone therapy at our clinic for treating cancer but that may or may not be accessible to you. Not many clinics have it. I think when treating cancer (or any inflammatory disease) the most important treatment would be eliminating kibble/processed food from the diet. Using a home cooked or even raw diet - I find cooked works best for older pets but I currently have a 15 yr old feline cancer patient eating a raw chicken diet and she seems to do very well on it. Depends on the individual but I would make any changes slowly/cautiously. Good luck! Dana

One other trick I have used to get herbs into cats is making a homeopathic dilution using the granules.

Dana, Thank you very much for you input! I will try to determine which of these modalities she should do and let you know what happens. We took the mass out on Monday and are having it biopsied. I like your idea of the homeopathic dilution. Have you ever heard of Juliette de Bairacli Levy? She was a herbalist many years ago and specialized in veterinary care. I'm going to share her info on the main forum for all bc she is SO interesting! and I'm buying a few of her books. So appreciate you! Nina
